How to install/upgrade to the new 2G Digital Wireless Electronics
The new 2009 36 volt, Digital Control Module (DCM) with 2G Digital Wireless Remote is compatible with both the 2008 Pro Module 600W model and the 2008 M4 800W all terrain model. DCM Upgrade Kits are now available for these 600/800 watt Altered models and a few of the more popular 24 volt, Exkate models of the past.
The pictures and steps below illustrate the relatively simple installation of a new Digital Control Module.
Tools needed: 5/32" hex key, 5.5 mm socket/wrench
| Step 1: Remove the four bolts holding the old DCM (Motor Control Box) in place using a 5/32" hex key. |
| Step 2: Next unplug the WHITE wires leading to the RC receiver chip (Lower Right Corner). Note, the small box in front of battery case, near the front trucks (The Old Wireless Reciever) is no longer needed. Then use 5.5 mm wrench to remove RED (+) , BLACK (-) and BROWN (neutral) wires coming from motor. |
| Step 3: Pull wires running to motor out of old box and run through openings in new box, keep RED wire (+) separate from BLACK (-) and BROWN (neutral) wires. |
| Step 4: Re- attach motor wires to new control board (RED=mot +, BLACK, BROWN= mot -) |
| Step 5: The new controller integrates the receiver for the digital wireless remote, so you will not need to plug in the white wire running to the old RC receiver, you can just leave it under the box. |
| Step 6: Re install DCM box with four hex screws, tighten until screw is flush with top deck, do not over tighten. |
| Basically your done and ready to Rock & Roll! |

TURNING ON YOUR BOARD & HOW THE NEW DCM/CONTROLLER “LOCKS ON”
The new 2009 boards are engineered to be interference-free and to “lock on” using our new 2G Digital Wireless technology. IF RIDING IN GROUPS, TURN ON ONLY ONE BOARD AT A TIME. Follow these steps: Turn the board on first, and then stand the board up vertically by holding the front truck, so that the drive wheel is not touching the ground. Then turn on the Hand Controller and wait a full 10 seconds while the board and controller link and lock on. Squeeze the trigger to make sure the units have connected. Set the board down and you’re ready to ride! The 2G feature allows only the “locked on” controller to communicate with that particular board, meaning NO INTERFERENCE from other riders nearby or any other devices on any frequency. Turning either unit off breaks the locked on link and will require a repeat of these steps to create a locked on signal.
If the controller makes a low, single volume noise after it’s turned on, the controller is letting you know that either 1) its AAA batteries are exhausted and should be replaced, or 2) that the controller is too far away from the board to remain connected. Do not ride the board with low batteries. Also, when the battery pack on the board gets low, the motor controller will cause the motor to pulse letting you know you’re reaching the end of your ride time and that it’s time to recharge. Recharging takes about 4 hours.
